M. Neri (Ed.), 2021_ Humans, resources, or what else?

Abstract
The literature on human resource management shows growing attention to the “personal” dimension of the subject-organization relationship, while the subjectivist contributions do not disregard the discussion on managerial implications. This ebook proposes a reflection on this apparent convergence. It discusses the internal criticism arising from the mainstream literature and the criticism originating from different disciplinary perspectives (organization, sociology of science, psychology of work, and labor law). Alternatives to the idea of human resources are proposed through the reflection on the goals of the processes of actions and decisions, the ontological reflection on the idea of man, and the epistemological reflection on the choices that allow overcoming the objectivism/subjectivism antinomy.

M. Neri (Ed.), 2019_ Questioni di giustizia.

Abstract
This book collects contributions on questions of justice. It proposes a reflection on justice observed from different disciplinary perspectives (organization, philosophy, labor law, economics, work psychology) concerning the basic assumptions underlying the research approaches on this topic. Then, the book considers justice in relation to different issues that are widely debated in the social arena (corporate governance, organizational design, well-being, digitalization of work processes, smart working). A critical point of view on the different positions is adopted. We believe that recognizing the specificities of single disciplines and their defining and applicative problems is a fundamental premise in order to face the new challenges that a subject as ancient as justice seems to bring to the forefront of today’s society.

A. Salento (Ed.), 2018_ Industria 4.0: oltre il determinismo tecnologico

Abstract
In the age of the so-called fourth industrial revolution, the social sciences and organizational studies are called to a very demanding challenge: overcoming technological determinism to understand the dynamics and perspectives of a transformation not at all automatic. The contributions collected in this book address, starting from different disciplinary perspectives, some of the most relevant questions posed by technological transformation: which are the dominant actors of this transformation? What is the relationship between technological transformation and organizational action? What is the role of workers in the technological transition? The element common to all contributions is the reasoned removal of a deterministic interpretation of technological transformation, the methodological rejection of the idea of self-development of technology.

M. Neri, 2018_ Giustizia e Organizzazione: concezioni a confronto

Abstract
This ebook proposes a reflection on justice within organizations. In all social areas and especially that of the workplace, people’s experience is built around stories that refer to the notion of justice. This consideration is the basis of the present effort to analyze justice theories either used by organizational scholars or which can be utilized at an organizational level. After the presentation of the “conceptions of organization”, the ebook proposes an original reading of the theoretical contributions on justice, which uses the aforementioned knowledge alternatives as reference. The essay ends with a confrontation between these different visions of justice, outlining research and managerial implications.

M. Neri (Ed.), 2017_ Smart working: una prospettiva critica.

Abstract
Smart working is one of the keywords universally used to define the changes resulting from the application of ICT in work organization. Recently introduced in the Italian Labour Law, Smart working (or Agile work) implicates practices across at least 3 dimensions: time (when do people work?), location (where do people work?), role and source (how do people work?). In this publication, which collects the discussion of the TAO Research Programs seminar that took place at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in September 2016, scholars from different disciplines reflect critically about two crucial questions: what changes are we observing and which theoretical categories can we use to understand them?

M. Neri, M. Rinaldini (2016). Tempo e giustizia nell’analisi organizzativa. Roma: Carocci.

Abstract
Work-life balance is one of the current issues within the academic, political, and managerial debate. An article discussed in a TAO Research Programs seminar held in June 2015 at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, suggests a critical interpretation of the mainstream literature and its related controversial results in terms of work-life reconciliation practices. The article also provides an alternative analytical framework based on Bruno Maggi’s organization theory, Norbert Elias’ theory of time, and Amartya Sen’s theory of justice. Scholars from different universities and disciplines contribute with comments on the notions of time, justice, organization and the proposed interpretative framework as well.

G. Masino, B. Maggi (Eds.), 2013_ Storie di imprese

Abstract
How do enterprises change? This volume tells the “stories” of the organizational transformations implemented in the first decade of the new millennium by five enterprises: Fiat Auto, Finmeccanica, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, Zurich, and Poste Italiane. Stories dealing with transformations of organizational configurations, changes in the policies of personnel management, implementation of mergers and acquisitions, reorganization of internal work processes, etc. These stories were collected during the workshops of the Research Program “L’Officina di Organizzazione”, in which managers and executives, protagonists of the organizational transformations, discuss about them with colleagues from other enterprises and university scholars. Each story is first told from “the inside”, from the point of view of one or more of its protagonists, and then interpreted according to different theoretical perspectives.
